CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique I use to help your body naturally heal and find balance. It was developed by Dr. John E. Upledger during his research at Michigan State University in the 1970s and 80s and focuses on the craniosacral system—the membranes and fluid that protect your brain and spinal cord.
Using a light touch, no more than the weight of a nickel, I work to release restrictions in this system. This helps improve the function of your nervous system and supports other areas like digestion, circulation, and breathing. It can also be incredibly helpful for managing stress, PTSD, anxiety, or depression.

CST is a great way to tap into your body’s natural ability to heal, whether you’re addressing specific concerns or looking to boost your overall health and resilience.

SomatoEmotional Release™ (SER) is a technique I use to help your body let go of the lingering effects of past injuries or negative experiences. It builds on the principles of CranioSacral Therapy and was developed through research by Dr. John E. Upledger and biophysicist Zvi Karni. When we experience an injury or trauma, our bodies might not fully release the physical and emotional energy from the event. Instead, this energy can get "stuck," forming what they called an "energy cyst."

At first, your body may adapt to this energy cyst, but over time, it can lead to pain, dysfunction, or emotional stress as the body struggles to cope. SER gently works to release this stored tension and tissue memory, helping your body and mind heal more fully.

This mind-body approach doesn’t just ease physical symptoms—it can also bring awareness to how unresolved trauma might be affecting your emotional health. By addressing both the physical and emotional layers, SER supports your journey toward greater wellness and balance.

CranioSacral Therapy FAQs

What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique designed to release deep tensions in the body, helping to alleviate pain, improve function, and enhance overall health. It was developed by Dr. John E. Upledger during his years of research and clinical work at Michigan State University, where he was a professor of biomechanics.

With a light touch, typically no more than 5 grams—about the weight of a nickel—CST focuses on relieving restrictions in the soft tissues surrounding the central nervous system. Many people turn to CST not only to address pain and dysfunction but also as a proactive approach to support their body’s natural defenses and maintain better health.

How does Craniosacral Therapy Work?
The brain and spinal cord, which make up the central nervous system, are vital to the body’s function and are protected by the craniosacral system—membranes and fluid that surround and nourish them. Daily stresses can tighten tissues and distort this system, creating tension around the brain and spinal cord and impacting overall health.

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) uses a gentle touch to detect and release these restrictions. By evaluating the motion and rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid, practitioners can help restore balance to the craniosacral system. This process supports the body’s natural healing and relieves issues like chronic pain, sports injuries, and neurological conditions.

Is there any condition for which CST shouldn't be used?
This is not a complete list of contraindications, and we encourage practitioners to deepen their understanding of CranioSacral Therapy by studying its indications and contraindications further.
CST may not be suitable in certain situations, particularly when even slight changes in intracranial pressure could cause instability. Examples include acute aneurysms, cerebral hemorrhages, or severe bleeding disorders, where small shifts in pressure could pose risks.
